BHRI Innovative Recycling System for Waste Plastic


> The widespread use of plastics demands proper end of life management. According to EPA's data only 8 percent of the total plastic waste generated in 2010 was recovered for recycling. The amount of waste plastic is increasing and it has negative impacts on the environment. Waste plastic presents one of the biggest problems in environmental protection because of the enormous amount of it and its long-term decomposition (up to 1.000 years).

The market for plastic waste material under Cl. No. 19 12 12 (other waste material from mechanical waste recycling that are not classified under No. 19 12 11*) and 15 01 02 (plastic packaging) needs special attention in Slovenia because the waste under these classifications is not possible to recycle. That is why they are bought at high prices by Austrian incineration plants and have negative impacts on the environment. Other waste is left on landfills that cause severe degradation of environment. Slovenian market has 50.000 tons per year of waste material that cannot be recycled with any technology. With GLO project we would recycle half of the available waste material into energy raw materials thus preventing environment degradation.

BHRI Institute has come up with revolutionary environmental friendly innovative solution – recycling system for waste plastic. Important benefit of recycling plastic is a reduction in energy consumption and an increase in energy recovery. The innovative solution, called Bi-molecular EF Pyrolysis System of GLO technology is that it helps to reduce greenhouse emissions by decomposition of the NOx and SOx particles and with its own resources of power and water supply it helps preserving natural resources. The closed process of the pyrolysis system enables clean and environmentally acceptable process while the classical incineration plants are still ecologically questionable. GLO technology predicts the production of waste up to 24.000 tons per year which means decreased greenhouse gas emission corresponding to 53.522 tons of CO
2 equivalent per year (53.519 tons of CO2 and 3,528 tons of Methane) for yearly capacity of 24.000 tons of mixed plastic waste. This figure comes from comparing the LCA results of average currently used incineration process and improved green line oil technology (GLO). Environmental credits for extracted energy and materials from both mentioned waste management processes compared are not taken into consideration. GLO technology also contribute to reduction of water consumption (- 1314 tons / year).

This sort of device that produces gasoline and diesel through pyrolysis procedure (waste plastic that cannot be recycled through existing technologies, according to statistic data it has to be transported to an incineration plant in Austria) is new to Slovenian and EU market and it represents a whole new approach to waste recycling.

The system of reverse-reaction pyrolysis enables the reactor for high efficiency use of 94%, 0% emissions, while being extremely silent. The output products (gasoline, diesel) are extremely clean and in compliance with the EURO5 standards. System's advantage is in its self-efficient power supply because the produced gas from the recycling process is entirely (100%) returned into the production process. It does not need any external energy source therefore it is optimal investment. It has a self sufficient reactor cooling system with water obtained from its own recycling production process. Another advantage of this reactor is the use of unrefined waste plastic including PVC. This is because it has a special system for forced decomposition of harmful molecules, which are then turned into non-harmful molecules. Recycling-production plant Green Line Oil exceeds all environmental, health&safety and all general requirements (frequent automatic supervision, control systems, automated sensor system, non refundable security elements).

We obtain certification of the production processes in accordance with standards ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.
