> A reliable supply of safe, high-quality water is critical for the wellbeing, crewmembers as well as the surrounding environment. The demand for clean water has outstripped the supply, and virtually all accessible fresh water sources have already been tapped. The world's oceans can provide a virtually limitless supply of drinking water. An estimated 97.5% of the total volume of water on earth is in seas and oceans. It is expected that, by 2025, five and a half billion people - two-thirds of the world's population - will live in countries that are classified as water stressed. In recognition of the growing water crisis, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed the years 2005 to 2015 as the International Decade for Action on ‘Water for Life'. The availability of fresh water is not only an issue for a drinkable water supply. The primary users of water are agriculture and industry. The approximate breakdown of water usage by sector is as follows: agriculture 69%, industry 23% and domestic 8%. Consequently, water shortages are likely to become an increasing constraint on economic growth throughout the world, particularly in the production of food. A growing population, changing diet and increasing production of bio-fuels will put intolerable pressure on depleted water resources with implications for global security, health and lifespan.



Converting seawater to fresh water and water vapour in the right places offers the potential to help solve all these problems. Lakes, rivers and other bodies of fresh water are limited in dry regions, as is rainfall, which is the primary source of fresh water globally. Fresh water will become increasingly important in determining the economic stability of nations.

MMRO is an innovative, best in class water technology which has several significant advantages compared to competition systems. The technology reduces power consumption by up to 90% as it uses a fraction of the electricity of a conventional plant.

The system can be used for cities or other places where drinking water represents a huge problem. Big advantage of the system is large scale of output water capacities, from 1m³/day and even up to 1.000.000 m³ of clean mineralized drinking water per day with lowest running costs in the world – 0,27 EUR/m³!

This process offers a significant reduction in capital and operating costs. It also has a positive impact on the environment, as it uses around 30% less energy than conventional desalination and lowers the consumption and disposal of hazardous chemicals.

The process is safe, environmentally friendly, cost effective, and maintenance-free alternative to traditional chemical injection. The technology imitates natural processes, helping to restore the environment while significantly reducing the operating costs of greenhouse horticulture. In addition to not having to discharge concentrated brine, it also benefits from the fact that high salinity water has a powerful biocidal or sterilizing effect on the air that passes through it. This reduces or eliminates airborne pests. Further, the beneficial effect of the humid exhaust air creates a zone of locally higher humidity which encourages vegetation.
